The Devon Wine School offers a 1 day Introduction to Wine Course, as well as the WSET Intermediate Level 2 (2 Saturday full days) and WSET Advanced Level 3 (5 full days). DEVON WINE SCHOOL INTRODUCTION TO WINE This course is perfect for someone who is interested in wine and would like to learn how to taste and enjoy it, while at the same time getting some really useful background knowledge as to why a wine tastes as it does and what to look for when faced with rows of bottles on the supermarket shelf. The course runs from 9.30AM to 5.30PM. Course Costs: £95 per person (including £14.15 VAT). We offer a special rate of £175 for couples. The cost covers 12 good quality tasting wines (average retail price of £12.00), tuition by a Master of Wine, video clips, with a light lunch. Maximum numbers: Limited to 10 participants The Wine & Spirit Education Trust was founded in 1969 to provide high quality education and training in wines and spirits. Since then, WSET has grown into the foremost international body in the field of wines and spirits education, with a suite of sought-after qualifications. LEVEL 2 INTERMEDIATE COURSE This course is ideal for someone without a great deal of knowledge to gain a really good understanding of wine and wine tasting. The National Qualifications Framework Level 2 Accredited Course provides a good background to the world’s wines and spirits. We have, with the approval of the Wine & Spirit Education Trust, reduced the course from 3 days to 2 days. This will mean a little more home study, but all the essential ground will still be covered. It also allows us to reduce significantly the normal cost from £335 to £245 (including VAT). Course Dates: Saturday 31st May and Saturday 14th June 2008. The course runs from 9.00AM to 5.00PM, with a 50 question multiple-choice examination on the afternoon of the 14th June from 5.30 to 6.30PM. Course Costs: £245 per person (including £36.49 VAT) covers the WSET 86 page publication “Wines & Spirits, Looking Behind the Label” and a comprehensive Study Guide which forms the basic framework for the studies, 24 tasting wines, 6 ISO tasting glasses for you to keep, tuition, video clips, light lunch on both days and the examination. The National Qualifications Framework Level 3 Accredited Course is intended to provide core knowledge of the wide range of wines and spirits around the world. Those attending this course will be familiar with the concepts introduced and developed on the Intermediate Course. The course runs over 5 Saturdays from 9.00AM to 5.00PM, starting on 1st March. The course includes at least 60 different tasting wines, together with lunch, a box of 6 ISO tasting glasses for you to keep, the WSET 228 page publication “Exploring the World of Wines & Spirits” and a comprehensive Study Guide which forms the framework for the studies. Course Dates: Tuesdays 3rd, 10th, 17th, 24th June and 1st July. Assessed at the end of the final day by a blind tasting of a single wine, a 50 question multiple-choice paper and a question paper requiring short written answers. Course Costs: £495 per person (including £73.72 VAT) covers all materials, tasting wines (that’s more than £600 of wines), 6 ISO tasting glasses, tuition, video clips, light lunch each day and the examination. WSET BOOKING TERMS FOR WSET COURSES Full payment must be made at the time of booking and places will only be confirmed once payment is received. Bookings will only be accepted on forms provided by the Devon Wine School, with signed/agreed student declaration. Cancellations of confirmed places are accepted up to 10 working days prior to the start of the course. An administration fee of £25.00 will be charged as well as the cost of any study materials supplied. Transfers of a confirmed booking either to another course or applicant can be made up to 10 working days before the course start date on payment of an administration fee of £25.00 plus the cost of any additional study materials which may be applicable. If a confirmed course booking is cancelled, for whatever reason, during the ten working days prior to the start of the course, or at any time after the start of the course, no refund or transfer of the course fees will be made. Examination dates are fixed to the course onto which you book and any transfer to an alternative date will incur an administration fee of £25.00 - all transfer requests must be made in writing or by email (alastair@devonwineschool.co.uk) at least 10 working days before the original examination date. Transfer requests made within 10 working days of the examination date will incur additional charges.
